The Impossible Dream

Six years ago, I wrote these words:
I’m sitting here looking into our backyard and our little 6’x2′ garden which holds zucchini, tomatoes and celery. I look to see that one of our tomatoes is just about ready to be pulled from the vine. One thing Josh and I have never really shared with anyone is our desire to have a garden. A mini-farm really. We want to grow fruit and vegetables, have chickens, and maybe even a few pigs or goats. This is our dream. But for now, we have that little 6’x2′ garden. In this moment I am reminded that you must grow where you are planted.

Over the years our dream seemed more and more impossible. We lived in one subdivision after another, somehow getting closer and closer to big cities every time. Regardless, we kept that dream alive and now six years, three moves and one more child later, we are sitting on our own little "farm"-- Peaceful Oaks Homestead. The soil is practically unusable, there are coyotes everywhere and there's no shortage of work to be done.
Come along on our journey to transform 100 acres of "nothing" into our own little funny farm. (we're legitimately a circus... there's a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears but there's also just as much laughter as we figure it out as we go!)
